GOLS vs GOTS Mattress Certifications
GOLS and GOTS are often shown together on natural mattress pages, but they certify different things. The safest approach is to read the standard name, identify the material or product scope, and avoid treating certification as a comfort score.
GOLS
GOLS stands for Global Organic Latex Standard. It is used for organic latex and includes requirements related to certified organic raw material and processing. A GOLS logo on a mattress page should be tied to the latex or relevant certified product scope.
GOTS
GOTS stands for Global Organic Textile Standard. It covers certified organic fibers and processing criteria for textiles. In mattresses it often appears with cotton or wool; some manufacturers also hold finished-product GOTS certification.
What certification does not answer
Neither standard tells you whether a mattress is the right firmness, whether you will like latex bounce, whether edge support is strong, or whether the return policy is convenient. Use certification for material verification and trial terms for comfort risk.
Brand examples
Eco Terra currently states that its mattress uses GOLS-certified organic latex and GOTS-certified organic cotton and wool. Saatva lists GOLS-certified latex in its Latex Hybrid. Birch lists GOLS-certified latex. Avocado says its hybrid mattresses carry GOTS finished-product certification. Always verify the current model and certificate scope.
