Organic vs Natural Latex Mattresses
“Natural” and “organic” are not synonyms in mattress marketing. Natural latex identifies a rubber-based material category, while organic claims require a defined standard and certification scope.
Natural latex
A natural-latex claim tells you the foam is made from natural rubber rather than entirely synthetic latex, but it does not by itself communicate farming practices, chain of custody or finished-product certification.
Organic latex
GOLS provides a recognized standard for organic latex and includes requirements beyond simply calling the raw material natural. Shoppers can ask which component is certified and look for certification details.
Finished mattress claims
A mattress can contain organic latex while also containing steel coils, natural wool, organic cotton or other materials. GOTS can apply to textile components or, where a product is certified as such, to the finished mattress. Read the scope carefully.
